PHILOSOPHY – The Hermeneutic Skiing Reality

Hermeneutics is the art of interpreting. If we interpret everything as changing, then nothing would be definitive. The challenge is that we not only interpret the skiing reality we perceive but also other previous interpretations. Friedrich Nietzsche elucidated with clarity that “what I say about what is will always be an interpretation of what is.”

So, is our skiing reality interpretable? Do we interpret what it means to ski by the technical gestures of others, that is, by the skiing of others? When skiing, the interpretation of the reality we perceive depends on our personality, emotional state, behaviors, beliefs and needs.

When we discuss skiing as a reality, we are referring to our own interests. The ski instructor ‘interprets’ what a learner needs, the ski school ‘interprets’ what the skiers are looking for, and the ski resort ‘interprets’ the desire of its consumers to offer them services.

It’s a chain of interpretations, but could anyone claim that this instructor, this school or this ski resort is not interpreting the skiing technique, the teaching method, the customer’s needs or the consumers’ desires? In reality, we tend to interpret the forms more than the content, the ‘how’ more than the ‘what’.
